Kyiv Schools Design and Reconstruction

About the project

The Green Missions Foundation is working with Kyiv Officials in Ukraine to create a new system of design guidelines for reconstructing the elementary and high schools in the surrounding villages and suburbs of Kyiv. In the early days of the invasion, these villages around Kyiv experienced some of the most horrific crimes against humanity seen to date - they need our help and support.

Why it’s Important

More than 300 schools of all sizes and scales have been bombed or damaged in the Kyiv region since the attempted invasion of Kyiv and the start of the war in Ukraine. Schools and hospitals have specifically been targeted in this war to demoralize and hurt the country's youth, but this must not be allowed to stand.

To overcome these challenges and ensure that the youth of Ukraine can quickly regain access to education, the Green Missions Foundation has assessed that a broader approach is needed to create a system of programming, modular design, and construction guidelines to be configured and adapted across all sites and scales of schools. Such a system of guidelines can be used by multiple design teams throughout Kyiv and Ukraine when formally adopted.
